The Cotswolds

Sudeley Castle

The first castle to be built at Sudeley was in the 12th century and throughout the castles history it has been visited by the likes of Lady Jane Grey, Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn and Queen Elizabeth I. However, the castle that you will see today was built by Ralph Boteler in the 15th century. Situated against the backdrop of the Cotswold Hills, in magnificent grounds with beautiful and award winning gardens. The remains of older parts of the castle are still in evidence as can be seen from the images below. In the grounds, you will find St. Mary's Church which is home to Katherine Parr's tomb, the remains of a medieval tithe barn and a lake. There are also exhibitions including - The Historic Castle Apartments and The Life and Times of Emma Dent. In all, Sudeley Castle has to be one of the places that you really should visit when you visit the Cotswolds.
